Facebook is crowded. Very crowded. Per Facebook, “[o]n a given day, when someone visits News Feed, there are an average of 1,500 possible stories we can show.” Obviously, Facebook has to trim this down somehow.

Today Facebook reported that the latest update to its News Feed Algorithm, which manages this task, will result in “changes in distribution” of content; in other words, Facebook Pages will likely see decreased organic reach.

What does this mean to page administrators? Probably nothing you didn’t already know. It’s a constant fight to get your content in front of the largest possible percentage of your target audience. To accomplish this, Facebook suggests “a combination of engaging page posts and advertising to promote your message more broadly.” High-quality, high-engagement content will help you increase your reach on Facebook, and is really a best practice for your marketing content in general.
